The Facts

How many are involved? It is believed that more than 223,000 veterans are in prisons and jails. The numbers grow as the Operation Iraqi Freedom/Operation Enduring Freedom (OIF/OEF) wars continue to rage on. Every 9 in 100 inmates in the United States jails and prisons is a veteran. Ten to twelve percent (5,124 – 6,149) of Pennsylvania Department of Correction inmates report military service. More than 98.2% are male, 52.3% are white, 40% black, and 5.1% are Hispanic.

79% of the Pennsylvania Incarcerated
are from the Vietnam Era!!

The growing concern of so many veterans in our jails and prisons needs to be addressed. Many of the Vietnam combat veterans from the early and mid 1960’s brought home a concern that many did not address or even know it existed, the problem of Post Traumatic Stress Disorders and Traumatic Brain Injuries (PTSD/TBI). Of the many web sites that address the 40-year-old problem, I suggest that readers of this web page visit www.vietnow.com
